If you bring someone who isn't in Art 1A, then they must purchase their own ticket (this includes other UCSB students, friends, family, roommates etc.).

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION FROM LACMALACMA’s health and safety protocols and processes are implemented for you—our visitors—and our staff and volunteers. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and anyone with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.
Masks are strongly recommended indoors for everyone.

Stay home if you are sick or have COVID-19 symptoms. Do not visit LACMA if you or anyone in your party is exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 as identified by the L.A. County Department of Public Health, which include cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever, or chills.

Do not visit LACMA if in the last 10 days you or anyone in your party has been in close contact with or without face mask (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes or any unprotected contact with bodily fluids/secretions) with someone who has COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms during the 10 days prior to your scheduled visit to LACMA, or if you or anyone in your party are currently under isolation or quarantine orders.

Nota Bene: The museum trip is all-day immersive experience, and therefore the museum field trip is in lieu of both of the Art 1A lectures that week (section attendance is as scheduled). If you do not go to the museum that week, or the alternative assignment, then you will receive two absences. Take a selfie at the museum, and works of art that were of interest to you, and include it in your paper as proof of attendance.

GETTY CENTER FIELD TRIP FOR ART 1A & ART 130 | WINTER QUARTER 2019

The Getty Center Museum Trip

Please make sure that you have submitted your University of California, Santa Barbara Waiver of Liability, Assumption of the Risk & Indemnity Agreement to Elisa and Marshall in order to attend The Getty Center field trip. Once you have submitted your liability waiver to go on the field trip, then you will receive the special Getty issued code for free parking (on the day of the trip). Sally Mann: A Thousand Crossings November 16, 2018–February 10, 2019, GETTY CENTER
Sally Mann: A Thousand Crossings, which is the inspiration for the Art 1A Research Paper 2, will be on view during our trip to the Getty Center. Please make every effort to go on this Getty Center field trip because this exhibition is very important, and it closes on February 10.

According to The Getty Center,

The first major travelling survey of the artist’s career, this exhibition explores how Sally Mann’s relationship with the American South has shaped her work. Experimental, elegiac, and hauntingly beautiful photographs—many never before shown—reveal how she probes themes of family, mortality, and the landscape as a repository of personal and collective memory. Asking powerful questions about history, identity, race, and religion, the exhibition demonstrates how the legacy of the South continues to permeate American identity.

LACMA FIELD TRIP FALL 2018

Friday, November 9, 2018

LACMA FIELD TRIP UPDATE | SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10

The current fires in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, and 101 freeway closure in the Agoura Hills area, makes it far too risky to drive to Los Angeles from Santa Barbara, therefore I have cancelled the vans and want all of you to stay in Santa Barbara to remain safe.

You have three choices:

1) Meet your teaching assistants at the MCA on Saturday, November 10 at 6:00pm. You will be able to see the Kota Ezawa exhibition (which is the subject of your second research paper).

2) Do the alternative assignment and go to the SBMA and the MCA on your own.

3) If you are already in Los Angeles, and you still want to meet me at LACMA, as previously planned– then email me to let me know. I will go if some of you are already in LA and really wanted to go see the Rauschenberg exhibitions.
MEETING AT LACMA:
We can meet at the Wilshire Blvd. entrance next to the ticket office and Chris Burden's Urban Light sculpture (shown below) at NOON on Saturday, November 10. LACMA will be providing us with free admission to the museum, but only to people who are registered in the class.

5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036
Phone: (323) 857-6010

Parking costs $16.00 per vehicle, and it is not part of our free admission.

LACMA Field Trip Fall 2018

MEETING AT LACMA:
We will meet at LACMA at the Wilshire Blvd. entrance next to the ticket office and Chris Burden's Urban Light sculpture (shown below) at NOON on Saturday, November 10. LACMA will be providing us with free admission to the museum.

Phone: (323) 857-6010

Parking costs $16.00 per vehicle, and it is not part of our free admission. If you are getting a ride in one of the University owned vans (driven by your teaching assistants), you will be responsible to split the cost of parking (it will be a little over $1.00 for each of you, but the drivers will not incur any of the costs since they are driving you for free). The cost of the UCSB vans and gasoline are being provided by the Department of Art.

Here are a few things to consider about our LACMA field trip:
1) First, remember that this field trip is an all day event, and it replaces the Tuesday/Thursday lectures (November 6 & 8). You will, however, be attending your sections that week. Failing to go to LACMA, or the alternative museum trip to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the MCA, will result in two absences being recorded.

2) You must fill out the University of California, Santa Barbara Waiver of Liability, Assumption of the Risk & Indemnity Agreement if you are going on the LACMA field trip, even if you are staying in Los Angeles that weekend. If you haven't, then submit it to your TA ASAP. This is mandatory UCSB policy.

3) Be sure that your TA has your phone number and email, and that you have her email. If you arrive late, you want to be able to find us at the museum.

4) I would suggest eating a big breakfast since we won't be taking a break for lunch until later in the day. Furthermore, pack snacks for the road, and for lunch, unless you want to treat yourself to food at the museum. There are also food trucks that park across from the museum on Wilshire Blvd.

5) If you are driving from Santa Barbara, be sure to give yourself at least two hours to drive to LACMA.You never know what kind of traffic that you will encounter.

6) Wear comfortable shoes and clothing! We will be doing a lot of walking and hiking up stairs, so you want to be very comfortable.

7) Charge your phone since you will want to take a lot of pictures at the museum.

8) If you do not already have a Twitter account, then please start one for Art 1A since you will be taking pictures and Tweeting responses. Please use the Art 1A and LACMA handles: @Art1AUCSB and @LACMA
