Artist Bio:

Yumiko Glover’s artwork captures a range of inspirations drawn from her cross-cultural experiences, as well as the history and philosophy of Japan alongside contemporary scenes from the U.S. Glover’s work is part of collections at the Honolulu Museum of Art and has been exhibited at various public venues, including the Los Angeles International Airport, the Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design, the Torrance Art Museum, and in the United Nations’ anniversary publication in 2021. In 2023, Glover completed a mural project in NYC, held a solo exhibit at the Washington Studio School in Washington D.C., and exhibited at the Sullivan Goss Gallery in Santa Barbara. Originally from Hiroshima, Japan, Glover received her BFA from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and her MFA from UC Santa Barbara.

About Yumiko Glover,

Yumiko Glover’s artwork captures the range of inspirations taken from her cross-cultural experiences, history, and philosophies of Japan and the United States. Glover received her BFA from the University of Hawai’i, and with the Chancellor's Fellowship, she completed her MFA at UC Santa Barbara, where she was subsequently awarded the post-graduate Artist-In-Residence. Glover’s work is part of the collections at the Honolulu Museum of Art and has been on view at various venues including the Los Angeles International Airport, Shangri-La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design in Honolulu, iBiennale in Honolulu, Sullivan Goss Gallery in Santa Barbara, and the United Nation’s anniversary publication in 2021. Glover is currently based in Santa Barbara where she teaches art courses as a lecturer at UCSB.

About Yumiko Glover:

Yumiko Glover was born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan. Glover received her BFA from the University of Hawai’i, and completed her MFA and the post-graduate Artist-In-Residence at University of California, Santa Barbara. Glover has exhibited her artwork in venues including solo exhibitions at: the Brian Ohno Gallery (Seattle, WA) and the Silo118 Gallery (Santa Barbara, CA), group exhibitions at: PØST (Los Angeles, CA), Left Field (San Luis Obispo, CA), Art, Design and Architecture Museum (Santa Barbara, CA), Honolulu Museum of Art (Honolulu, HI), iBiennale MMXIX (Honolulu HI) and the Los Angeles International Airport (Los Angeles, CA). Glover currently lives in Santa Barbara, CA, where she is a lecturer in the Department of Art at University of California, Santa Barbara.

About Yumiko Glover:

Yumiko Glover was born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan. She received her BFA from the University of Hawai’i in 2011 and her MFA from UC Santa Barbara in 2017.

Glover has exhibited her artwork in a solo exhibitions at the Glass Box Gallery at UCSB, and the Brian Ohno Gallery in Seattle, Washington, curated group exhibitions at the Cedar Street Galleries in Honolulu, the Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center, the Honolulu Museum of Art’s exhibition Modern Love: 20th Century Japanese Erotic Art and the Honolulu Museum of Art’s 2013 Biennial Artists of Hawai’i. Glover was selected as the Top 25 Fine Artists for the 100 Best Annual 2014 & 2015 issues of the Creative Quarterly, the Journal of Art & Design. 

Transience of life, a central tenet of Buddhism that is used to describe the aesthetics of impermanence, is the major concept of her current work. By combining the elements that symbolize impermanence, Glover is representing the preciousness of those lives that existed during past and current wars. Glover’s most recent work, Transience, is currently exhibited at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX-Terminal 7/8) though March 2019 as a part of the Wild Blue Yonder exhibition.
