Art 1A & Art 130: The Getty Center and LACMA Trip | Summer Session A

Please make sure that you have submitted your University of California, Santa Barbara Waiver of Liability, Assumption of the Risk & Indemnity Agreement to Sunny– this is mandatory– even if you are coming from LA.

We will be seeing the Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Medium exhibition that is currently on view at The Getty (March 15–July 31, 2016), and this will really help further contextualize what you have learned from viewing Paul Yule's documentary film, Damned in the USA

N.B.: If you have HBO, then you should try to watch the new documentary, Mapplethorpe: Look at the Picturesthat is currently On Demand. I suggest watching it before our museum trip, if at all possible.

If you do not already have a Twitter account, then please start one for Art 1A since you will be taking pictures and Tweeting responses. Please use the Art 1A and Getty handles: @Art1AUCSB and @GettyMuseum

If you are carpooling (2 or more 1A and Art 130 students in a single vehicle), then you are eligible to receive free parking. Parking is $15.00 per vehicle if you are not carpooling.

We will be meeting at 10:00 on the museum side of the tram drop off (shown above).

Driving directions can be found here. General information: http://www.getty.edu
Chris Burden. Urban Light (2008)

After we finish up at The Getty, we will be heading over to LACMA, and we will discuss the time to meet while we are getting ready to leave The Getty. Please wait for me at the Wilshire Blvd. entrance next to the ticket office and Chris Burden's Urban Light sculpture (shown above). I will have all of the admission tickets to hand out to you there.

I strongly encourage you to eat something before you get to LA, and bring some snacks, because we won't take a break for lunch until a bit later in the day. If you do not want to buy lunch in LA, then you will want to bring something with you.
