Overview of Weeks 4-7
Week 4: I was able to schedule a Scholarly Research Workshop this week, and therefore here are the following schedule adjustments:
- Tuesday, January 31 Lecture: Fictional and Documentary Space in Film.
- Thursday, February 2: Scholarly Research Workshop in Chemistry 1171
- Sections this week will focus on paper #1 strategies
N.B. The Lynda Nead reading summaries are no longer due. Weeks 4 and 5 will be devoted to working on your research paper.
Week 5: No weekly writing assignments due this week so that you can focus on Paper #1.
- Paper #1 Due: Thursday, February 9 in lecture
Week 6: Semiotics reading summaries due Tuesday, February 14.
Week 7: Be sure to attend sections this week (LACMA Trip Saturday, February 25. No Lectures).

• Raymond Williams: "Advertising: The Magic System"
• Edisol Wayne Dotson: “Buy Me Advertising”
• Jean Kilbourne: Excerpts from Can't Buy My Love: How Advertising Changes What We Think and Feel
Please make sure that you submit your University of California, Santa Barbara Waiver of Liability, Assumption of the Risk & Indemnity Agreement to your TA– this is mandatory– even if you are driving yourself coming from Santa Barbara or Los Angeles.
